I submitted a short story to Woman’s World magazine about a month ago. Yesterday, someone asked me if I’d heard yet. I knew without checking that it was far too early, but I didn’t realize until I double checked the date that it had barely been a month.
I think this is the hardest part about submitting fiction. You send your baby off into the cold, hard world, and hear nothing for so long.
But, in cases like this, not hearing is best. A rejection by a first reader comes quickly. The longer it takes, the higher up in the publishing food chain your little story is climbing.
One month down…at least three more to go.
